REDIFFUSION ANGLIA : 1993

Of all the ITV companies that swallowed up smaller franchise holders, Rediffusion were the most aggressive in their rebranding. First to join the Rediffusion family was Anglia. The original plan had been to do away with the Anglia name altogether and rebrand as 'Rediffusion East', but research indicated that goodwill towards Anglia would mean resistance to such a radical move. But while the name was saved, Anglia's programming style, presentation style and unfortunatley many of it's presentation staff were rejected in favour of 'Rediffusion-ization', as it was unofficially known.

As it became clear that people would want at least some link with the Anglia of the past, the Anglia knight was dusted off to make a ghostly appearance at the beggining of the ident.

To be covered up by a picture of a local landmark, wiping from the right.

Ending on this, blocking out the link with the past, but emphasizing the links with the region.

In primetime, this local image would be loosened a little for special idents related to the upcoming programme.

Almost no concession was given on the production slide, which was a standard Rediffusion Network endcap with a small appearance of the Anglia name on the trademark Rediffusion stripe. This meant that outside the region, an image was projected of a solid Rediffusion Network.

The presentation slide, only seen within the region, was permitted a little more individual character.
