ATV 1982

In order to fulfill its instructions from the IBA, ATV modified its zoom. To all intents and purposes a colour version of its 1970s monochrome frontcap, this new zoom was preceded by the words "From the Midlands".

ATV 1982

In 1982, the ATV region was divided into two subregions. Here is the ATV East version of the zoom.

Changes were also made to the standard endcap. Gone was the box and the eurostile lettering.

ATV 1982

The Channel 4 production slide.

ATV 1983

In 1983, ATV produced a computer series entitled "Magic Micro Moments". For these programmes, the zoom, title and endcap were produced on a Sinclair Spectrum. Here is the endcap in all its 8-bit glory.

ATV 1985

A "coming next" slide for the action show, "Dempsey and Makepeace". This dates from 1985.

ATV 1988

The 1982 zoom lasted until mid-1988, when a computer-generated zoom was introduced. The jingle was a re-recorded version of the shortened Wally Stott motif used in the previous zoom.

The matching endcap.

ATV 1988

The production slide used for programmes shown on Channel 4.

ATV 1989

The 1988 computer-generated zoom was short-lived as ATV adopted the ITV corporate look in 1989.

Here is the end result. Versions were made for the two subregions, the text reading "ATV East" and "ATV West" respectively.

ATV 1989

The 1989 Corporate endcap for networked programmes. Regional and Channel 4 programmes used the 1988 slides.

ATV 1992

The Corporate zoom lasted until 1992 when this zoom was unveiled. Showing time-lapse footage of Birmingham at night, there was no jingle, simply the continuity announcement.

ATV 1989

The 1992 ITV production slide.

ATV 1994

A slide for "The Bill", from 1994.

ATV 1995

A special zoom was used throughout ATV's 40th anniversary year. Based an an ident from the 1950s, it reintroduced the original chimes as they were heard on ATV's first day. There was no matching endcap, programmes continuing to used the 1992 slide.

ATV 1996

In 1996, the graphics were updated yet again. A rather bland piano sequence accompanied the graphics.

ATV 1996

The matching ITV production slide.

ATV 1996

This version of the endcap was used for regional programmes and those shown on other channels.

ATV 1999

The biggest change to the ATV logo in its decades of existence came in 1999 when a star was added to the top-right corner. Rather than adopt the "ITV Hearts" look, ATV produced its own zoom, which was shown across all three of its ITV regions. The Carlton and Westcountry names were now history, and ATV had returned to London, albeit during the week.

ATV 2000

An ATV/Sky Television endcap from 2000.

ATV 2001

ATV's latest endcap, using the ITV "sidebar". This is from the 2001 series, "Rich and Famous".

ATV 2002

A "coming next" promo from the final week before the Great ITV1 Re-brand.

ATV 2002

HTV News, an ATV production for ITV1 Wales... Rather confusing, eh?
